Race, Equity and Inclusion
The Fresno-Madera K-16 Collaborative is an unprecedented and dynamic K-16 intersegmental pilot program. At its core, the Collaborative was designed to help remove equity gaps in education and support the Fresno region’s racially and socioeconomically diverse population of students. The K-16 program is a result of the Governor’s Council on Post-Secondary Education and Fresno DRIVE.
The Collaborative works to leverage existing infrastructure through progressive new pathways for both students and teachers. Increasingly more students are able to achieve college credits while still in high school, increasing their chance at higher education. Teachers are able to pursue a master’s degree through our programs so that they can become dual enrollment teachers, directly supporting the aforementioned students.
Through its successes, the K-16 Collaborative is striving to improve degree completion; put students on paths to employability in higher-wage, higher-skill jobs; and lift our current teachers to new heights through feasible access to master’s degree programs. In turn, the program lowers the poverty rate by directly closing the equity gap.
The 9 Key Elements
Fresno-Madera K-16 Collaborative believes that nine key elements will help ensure the success of every student across the Central Valley. Focused in equity and outreach, these elements offer not only support and guidance but also advanced resources that allow students to obtain collegiate course credit while still in high school. The nine key elements include dual enrollment coursework and year-round operations so that students are always able to work toward a seamless transition into a college education through provided resources. There will be a focus on genuine academic and community support as well as opportunity through employer partnerships, shared assets, and virtual labs. Students will gain confidence through college-level classes, unique internships, inspiring labs, and an outstanding network of support.
