Fresno City College and Central Valley Higher Education Consortium are working to support racial equity and outreach for educators within the Central Valley. Due to the challenging outcomes for individuals of color within the Valley — including but not limited to high unemployment rates for Black Americans — this project will focus on equitable education outcomes for students of color. Since a majority of educational institutions within the Central Valley are Hispanic Serving Institutions, the project notes that it is essential for racial equity to be a top priority. This project will specifically focus on supporting Black and African American, LatinX, Native American, and Southeast Asian students by closing equity gaps that they face.
Within this project, both FCC and CVHEC will work to identify both best practices and barriers occurring within the Central Valley in regards to Equity, Race, and Social Justice so that they can identify where changes need to be made most. The project has a specific focus on what higher education within the Central Valley ought to look like in order to best benefit students of color.
